MAUREEN E. BRADY
We were blessed to have Maureen as a volunteer at Bobbi and the Strays for over 10 years. She loved all the animals at the shelter but her heart belonged to our small pups. She had a unique gift of being able to connect with many of our scared, neglected and abused dogs suffering from social anxiety. She was their advocate and often tried to solicit volunteers to work with them. Due to Maureen’s help in championing these dogs, many ultimately were adopted! They are now in forever homes living their best lives.
The last dog that Maureen bonded with was Brook. We weren’t sure if this pup would ever be adopted due to his traumatic past. He came to us in 2018 at just 9 months of age. Over the years, Maureen was able to earn his trust and truly became “his person”. When Maureen left us at the end of the year, Brook missed his “angel on earth”, his “Mama Maureen”. But a few months later another “angel” walked through our doors and wanted to meet Brook. She adopted him shortly after they met. Was his new adopter sent by Maureen? Many of us think she was…
Our friend, Maureen, left behind her beautiful feline companion, Nick. Thankfully, he was adopted recently as well. His mom is now smiling from above.
Maureen didn’t live close to our Freeport shelter but she still managed to show up for the pups on a regular basis multiple days a week. We miss her presence at the shelter and her dedication to her pup pals who benefitted from the loyalty and love she showed them. Her spirit will forever remain at the shelter and in our hearts.
