Bobbi and the Strays acquired a “new” shelter in Nassau County, Long Island on March 11, 2011. We assumed ownership and operational control of a pre-existing animal shelter located at 2 Rider Place, Freeport, NY 11520.
Our “new” shelter was anything but new when we acquired it and was in dire need of a good cleaning and much repair and renovation. When we acquired this building we also acquired the animals the former shelter group housed there including almost two dozen dogs and over 200 cats.
We have made great strides within just one year of taking over this shelter with renovating space for an administrative office, landscaping lawns for dog socialization and play, painting, and repairs being made to the roof, sewer, and walls – just to name a few of our projects.
Our shelter has become a bright, happy, welcome place for people to visit and our wards to live in until they find their “furever” homes. It now represents hope, possibilities, and a future for so many more animals in need.
It is still not as ideal as we would like but we continue to concentrate on the future and what it can further become.
We still hope to have an indoor training facility, on-site vet, low cost spay and neuter clinic, outside agility areas – and SO MUCH MORE! An ambitious goal? Absolutely! But we believe in placing value in what matters most – these precious creatures. Like you we believe that they are more than worth it.
We are relying on your generous support, help, and donations to continue to improve and renovate our shelter so that we can continue to do the important work that saves the lives of so many animals each year.
